About Gal

Gal Weinstein, born 1970, currently lives and works in Tel Aviv. His works are characterized by a sensitivity to material and space, a preoccupation with surface via inferior synthetic materials, camouflage and substitutes, and a fundamental ambivalence regarding the potential political content implied by the work.

Weinstein represented Israel at the Sao Paulo Biennial in 2002, participated in The New Hebrews at the Martin Gropius Bau, Berlin in 2005, had a solo show at Huarte Contemporary Art Centre, Pamplona, Spain, in 2007 and at the Helena Rubinstein Pavilion of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in 2005.

"So Enthralled with his Sculptor (Gal Weinstein) I had to go & find the book & buy it - the first book store I looked in their it was was sitting on the table - Peter Merom, The Death of the Lake, trans. M. Benaya (Tel Aviv: Davar Press, 1960). I could not put it down - heartbreaking, what is the world coming to? Thank you Gal Weinstein.RABIN"

"is it cool or what :)"

"The work is pretty good. But for the life of me I don't understand what it has to do with politics. I would welcome some place to rest from politics; there is too much of it all around."

"another AotD gem"

"that is really cool i like how it looks so relistic!"

"walking on a map"

"reminds me of the view of land from an airplane"

"Lisa had a very apt comment about the artist's statement and its consequences. Are these pieces at all interactive or do visitors just passively view them? I can't tell if the people in the first piece are real or not."
