About Emil

Emil Alzamora was born in 1975 in Lima, Peru. He was raised in Boca Grande, Florida, where he attended state university and graduated with a BFA magna cum laude in 1998. He started his sculpting career in 1998 in collaboration with Polich Art Works in Hudson Valley. Since his departure in early 2001 he has worked full-time on his sculptures and exhibited regularly across the United States.

Emil explains the work by saying, “The human form is a constant within my work. I often exaggerate or distort it to reveal an emotional or physical situation, or to tell a story”, writes the artist. “Limitation and potential are as human as the flesh. I strive to make this comparison visible.”

"In the statues of Emil Alzimora there lies the struggle of life and death. Human versus nature, human versus animal, these are two themes that play out in his work. There is a sense of struggle made even more painful by the realistic nature of the statues. The viewer can see veins in the body, the tension in the muscles, and the pain on the face even if it is not a human face. Suffering is an easy emotion to connect with, made slightly more distant by the distorted figures. This art proves that no matter who or what you are, we all speak the same language."

"the first one looks so tragic. It looks as if in a state of exhaustion and loss. The second piece looks like the opposite, triumph. I may be so off but they are amazing pieces."

"MY REVIEWpic a; humanity on the international scene is strongly subdued by the wills of economy, armoury and faith.pic b; the black race strongly occupies his terrain through the wide coverage of his individuality into the supernatural."
